Introducing our collaborative exhibition candle, ‘Colors the Rain Throws,’ a limited edition release to coincide with the virtual showcase of Erika b Hess’s work. Presented by Guava Jelly Studio, ‘Colors the Rain Throws’ marks our first solo exhibition featuring the paintings of Erika b Hess. In this series of mystical landscapes and vivid colors, Hess conveys emotions and experiences centered around the recurring theme of puddles, which serve as symbols of both the transience of human life and the profound depths of the subconscious. Hess encourages viewers to explore the allure of feeling adrift and the profound impact of self-reflection.

As an artist, Hess explores the realm of Jungian psychology, where water serves as a symbol of the subconscious—a realm where hidden depths lie beneath the surface. Inspired by Jung's notion that "Water means spirit that has become unconscious," my artwork delves into this unexplored spirit. Through abstract depictions of water's surface, I aim to evoke motion while suggesting the mysterious depths below. Surrounding these puddles is what I refer to as "The Wilderness," a domain filled with intense and multifaceted experiences. This wilderness may represent peril, the quest for spiritual enlightenment, rebirth, or a space for self-reflection. It is within the dynamic interaction between the puddle and the wilderness that the emotions and tensions I seek to express find their origins.
